African Sisters Network explores transformative story telling in Brunch and Learn networking in Kampala
What Happened at the event
Iwriteafrica.com Publisher, Lilian Chudey Pride had this conversation with the Founder of The African Sisters Network (TASN), Victoria (Ateenyi) Nyanzi on the event. Have a pleasant reading.

Event Overview
The African Sisters Network (TASN) hosted its second Brunch & Learn at the Emin Pasha Hotel in Kampala, Uganda, recently (July 5, 2025). The theme of the event is “Be Seen. Be Heard: How Owning Your Voice Transforms Your Personal and Professional Life.” The event brought together over 150 women including students and chief executives officers (CEOs) who explored the transformative power of storytelling, personal branding, and (unapologetic) visibility.
Why We Gathered
Because silence is no longer an option. We’re tired of asking for permission to exist in spaces we were born to lead.
TASN’s founder, Victoria Nyanzi, says:
“African girls have powerful stories, but for far too long we’ve been told to dim our light. This space is about reclaiming our voice, our identity, and our right to be seen and heard.”
This gathering was our collective yes to being louder, bolder, and more visible — together.
Special Moments That Stirred Something in All of Us
Let’s talk about the fire-starters who took the mic:
- Quiin Abenakyo, Miss Uganda 2018 and Miss World Africa, dropped this gem:
“Confidence comes from competence. When you own your story, you stop asking permission to exist.”
Fresh from completing her Master’s in ICT, her story of transformation from shy student to global advocate gave every woman in the room permission to bloom. - Jacqueline Asiimwe, CEO of CivSource Africa, reminded us to:
“Know yourself deeply before you demand to be seen. Lead from within.”
Also in the room were Elizabeth Kasedde Mwerinde (Head, Commercial Banking, EcoBank Uganda), Gloria Haguma (renowned fashion journalist), and a room full of game-changing women ready to rewrite their narratives.
The event also marked the graduation of Cohort 4 from our LinkedIn & Personal Branding Class — a testament to the power of consistency, coaching, and community.

How many Girls attended?
We welcomed 150+ women to the room, with many more waiting for the next one.
The Vibe? Electric, Empowering, and Real.
You could feel the shift. What started as networking turned into genuine connection. There were laughs, tears, notes being scribbled like gold dust, and strangers-turned-sisters. One guest put it perfectly:
“Networking was awkward… until we got real. Vulnerability changed everything.”
It wasn’t just a brunch. It was a homecoming for our voices.
Voices from the Room
These are what some attendees had to say:
“Don’t let anyone else tell your story for you… A room full of women rewriting their stories, cheering each other on.” – Felly Amanda Baisuka (Moderator)
“This space reminded me that I’m not alone. I left lighter, louder, and laser-focused.” – Attendee
What This Event Meant to Us
For many, it wasn’t just about learning — it was about unlearning. Unlearning smallness. Unlearning silence.
Personally, I walked away with a renewed belief in the power of intentional storytelling. Seeing women own their stories out loud lit something in me, a conviction to lead louder, to teach clearer, and to never underestimate the ripple of one woman’s voice.
Moments in Motion: Photos, Laughter, and Legacy
The smiles were contagious.
The activities and signoff were reminders that growth is worth celebrating.
Comments were raw, real, unforgettable.
From group shots under the Kampala sun to candid giggles between session, the energy was undeniable. These were not just moments. They were milestones.
Next Stop? Nairobi. Are You Coming?
On July 29th, this year, TASN takes over Nairobi, Kenya for another unforgettable Meet and Greet. If Kampala gave us clarity, Nairobi will give us momentum – You’ll want to be in that room. Period.
To the NOW Community and Future Sisters
To every sister reading this, you are not too late. You are not too quiet. You are not too much.
This movement is for YOU: The woman with a story, a skill, and a spark.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to show up, and let sisterhood do the rest.
Let’s keep building the table. Let’s keep making noise. Let’s keep being seen, and heard.
